AMN Blog, Part 9: The Uncertainty of What Comes Next

Man sitting on a hill looking at the foggy sun

One of the hardest parts of living with AMN is not always what you are dealing with today. Sometimes, it is thinking about what tomorrow might bring.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

When you live with a progressive condition, the future can feel different. You start thinking about things you never used to consider. What will life look like in five years? What changes might come? How will this affect the people I love?

Those questions do not always have answers.

And that is difficult.

I am someone who likes to plan, set goals, and work toward something bigger. I want to build businesses, take care of my family, stay active, and keep moving forward.

Uncertainty does not fit neatly into that mindset.

You can do everything you believe is right and still not know exactly what the future holds.

I think that is something people with chronic conditions understand in a way that is hard to explain to others.

You can be hopeful and still be scared.

You can be determined and still have bad days.

You can accept your diagnosis without being okay with everything that comes with it.

All of those things can be true at the same time.

I am learning that I cannot spend my life trying to predict every possible outcome. I cannot control every change or answer every question before it arrives.

What I can do is focus on how I live today.

I can keep showing up for my family. I can continue building what matters to me. I can take care of myself, stay informed, and keep looking for ways to improve my quality of life.

I can make plans without needing guarantees.

Because the truth is, none of us knows exactly what the future holds.

AMN makes that uncertainty harder to ignore, but it has also reminded me that life is happening right now.

I do not want to spend so much time worrying about what I might lose that I forget to appreciate what I have.

I do not have all the answers. I still have questions, fears, and moments when the uncertainty gets to me.

But I am still here. I am still building. I am still making plans.

And I am still choosing to live my life on my terms.

AMN may be part of my future.

It does not get to own every thought I have about it.

I cannot control every chapter ahead of me. But I can decide how I show up for the one I am living right now.
