FAQs about Ketamine Therapy
In high doses, ketamine is used as an anesthetic during surgical procedures. However, in lower doses, ketamine infusion treatments provides a variety of health and wellness benefits.
YOURx Health offers ketamine when other treatments haven’t worked to relieve mental health struggles such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, chronic pain, or substance abuse disorders.
Despite decades of research and clinical results supporting effects, side-effects, and safety information for ketamine, the exact way ketamine therapy works to relieve unpleasant symptoms isn’t entirely clear. However, it has a safe profile when administered by appropriately trained professionals.
Ketamine has been shown to promote robust neural activity and create neuroplasticity – allowing the brain to overcome unhealthy patterns. This, in turn, affects your cognition, thought patterns, and mood temporarily.
Your YOURx Health specialist could recommend you undergo ketamine therapy if you struggle with:
- Depression
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Bipolar Disorder
- Anxiety
- Chronic Pain
- Substance abuse disorders
- Suicidal ideation & end-of-life distress
Conditions not improving after other treatments? You may be a candidate for ketamine infusion treatments. Call and schedule an appointment today.
To determine if ketamine therapy is the right treatment for you, experts at YOURx Health discuss your symptoms and medical history. They may complete a psychiatric assessment, physical exam, and lab testing if needed to diagnose your condition and treat it properly.
Our goal is to make our patients feel at ease knowing our own stories, our personalized approach and our quality of service make a difference for each patient that calls or walks through our door.
First, comfort and security is top of mind at YOURx Health. While receiving your ketamine via IV infusion, you will be able to relax in one of our comfortable chairs in one of our secure rooms.
Once the doctor administers the initial “loading dose,” (usually a few mg of ketamine) then the infusion therapy begins. Common experiences start within a few seconds and include:
- Light pressure on your forehead, nose, and cheekbones.
- Numbness or loss of sensation in your extremities and face.
- Feelings of disassociation and distorted vision.
Because ketamine may have addictive properties for some people, your specialist closely monitors you during your treatment.
Furthermore, the length of time each treatment lasts varies based on your individual needs and your desired outcome.
Everyone’s reaction is different, so give yourself 15-20 minutes to clear your head and start moving your legs before walking. You may feel better immediately after ketamine infusions, with more improvements in how you feel physically and mentally over time.
At the end of your ketamine infusion session, it is usually customary to set your next appointmentand ask the doctor any follow up questions you may have. Additionally, your provider should offer you additional follow up therapy or at least a referral to a psychiatrist or a therapist to help you understand and control your moods and thoughts better.
Once home, you may feel the need to nap while others experience a spike in energy.
The YOURx Health team makes changes to ketamine treatment plans if needed, including recommending periodic ketamine infusions over time to give you long-lasting results.
